This week's sale rivals our Fine Art Sales for high quality works of art. Tuesday's sale includes some beautiful works of art by museum quality artists. The sale is led by a striking framed oil on canvas of 'Mundy Pool, Markeaton Park, Derby' by Andrew Macara (Lot 150, Estimate £1,500 - 2,500). This vibrant example of the artist's highly sought after bathers series demonstrates why Macara is seen as one of Britain's most collectible contemporary figurative artists. His paintings celebrate life and seem to jump of the walls. The same eminent local collector also consigned a large stamped and signed colour print by LS Lowry of an industrial town scene (Lot 190, Estimate £400 - 600).
From another collection comes a very fine pencil sketch of cattle by French artist Jean-Louis de Marne (1752 - 1829) who was awarded the Legion d'honneur by Charles X of France in 1828 (Lot 72, Estimate £200 - 400). A charming oil on paper by 19th century landscape painter Gaston Knecht is also offered in Tuesday's sale (Lot 69, Estimate £200 - 400).
