Last night High Road Auctions enjoyed a very successful Fine Art & Selected Antiques Sale with a record number of bidders in the room and online.  The sale was led by items with exceptional and historical provenances which had generated much interest from bidders globally.  Notable achievements were an impressive oil on canvas from the circle of Claude Vernet from the Castle Bagot Collection which sold for £4960, an over mantel looking glass by Robert Adam from Derby House of Grosvenor Square which fetched £4340 and an oil of canvas by Charles-Francois Daubigny of the Barbizon School from a private collector which achieved  £4712.  Furniture also sold extremely well with strong prices achieved.   Highlights were a Georgian satinwood long case clock by Richard Pettit of New Stamford which fetched £3720, far exceeding the high estimate of £1000.  A magnificent pair of early 19th century gilt and ebonised chinoiserie console tables also sparked great interest in the room and on the telephone and eventually sold for £4216.  Silver was another strong area with almost all the items snapped up by avid collectors and silver enthusiasts.
